Shoes to Wear With Red Gingham Off Shoulder Dress
Today's post is a sweet little style profile on gingham dresses! I picked up this gorgeous green and white gingham dress earlier this summer because I knew the smocked dress style would be perfect with my growing bump and because I couldn't resist the gingham print. My sister, Sarah, was in Charleston this summer and I asked her to pop into these photos because a) I love having her on Rhyme & Reason b) her summer plaid set might just be the cutest set (top, skirt) of the summer. I felt inspired to write a bit about how to wear a gingham dress and found a handful of gorgeous gingham dress options to share with you! Keep reading for some lovely summer fashion!

How To Wear Gingham Dresses In Summer
Mix and Match Gingham with Other Prints
I'm willing to bet that your grandmother or mother wore gingham or had gingham prints in your house growing up. Well, I'm also willing to bet that they mix and matched their gingham prints with floral prints, stripes, and other whimsical prints to keep their gingham feeling inspired (very grandmillenial if you ask me!). I didn't print mix with gingham here but how gorgeous does my gingham dress look next to Sarah's floral dress in these springtime photos? I would easily style these two or similar prints together in one outfit or in the design of a room. To pull off print mixing with gingham, I suggest having color themes run throughout both or all prints to create a natural flow with the eye from print to print.
Wear Multicolored Gingham Pieces
Why limit yourself to just one color gingham like all blue gingham when you could wear blue gingham with red gingham or wear blue gingham with yellow and green gingham? I think wearing colorblocked or tiered gingham is a really beautiful way to have fun with the print.
Mix and Match Gingham Dresses with Other Clothing Items and Accessories
Gingham can be a lot on the eye (in a good way!) so I love mixing and matching gingham with other clothing items like white shirts or denim jackets. And accessories like wicker purses or solid shoes. Gingham works gorgeously with tons of different textures and materials from suede to straw.
Gingham Dress Outfit Ideas
Smocking
My love for smocking knows no end! My love for smocking has been even more solidified since becoming pregnant because smocked clothing is so comfortable on a growing belly. The green and white gingham smocked dress I'm wearing in this post goes to show how adorable smocked gingham dresses can be!

Smocking is always comfortable, never out of style, and great at every age. Clearly, as evident from my dress in this post, I'm in love with smocked gingham dresses!
Puff Sleves
Puff sleeves are having a major moment right now. It seems that every fashionable outfit I see these days involves a dress or a top with puff sleeves. I have a colorful gingham dress with subtle puff sleeves (seen below) but I'm on the hunt for more of a statement puff sleeve gingham dress (although the green and white gingham dress I'm wearing in this post kind of fits the bill!)!

Add a touch of drama to your next gingham outfit with a statement puff sleeve.
Shirtdresss
As far as summer dresses go, a shirtdress is maybe the most timeless. Shirtdresses are chic, beautifully tailored, and a smart style choice. So, a gingham shirtdress is always an elevated choice when it comes to gingham.

Looking for a way to wear gingham and still step out in a smart, tailored style? Look no further than a gingham shirtdress.
Ruffles
Ruffles and gingham go beautifully together. Pick out a gingham dress with a ruffled skirt, a ruffled collar, or ruffled sleeves for a ladylike take on gingham print.

Pair two of my favorite things: gingham and ruffles for a feminine look this summer.
Matching Sets
Gingham is a playful print so why not up the playful ante by stepping out in a gingham matching set? Gingham shirts and gingham skirts go beautifully together, especially when they are designed to be worn as a matching pair. The only time you'll find me in a crop top is when I'm wearing it with a high waisted skirt. A gingham matching set is the perfect example of this and a flirty outfit idea for summer. Go for a pair of gingham pieces… I promise you'll love gingham matching sets.

Make your gingham looks even more playful by slipping into a flirty gingham matching set.
Neutrals
If you think wearing gingham is for kids, fear not! Try out neutral ginghams for a more elevated, grown-up take on the print. Sporting a navy, tan, or black and white gingham print is all kids of chic for the summer.
Shop Neutral Ginghams
Elevate your gingham prints with a gorgeous neutral gingham piece.
I hope this post gave you some ideas on how to wear a gingham dress! The sky is really the limit! When in doubt, go for the green and white dress I'm wearing in this post. The green color is gorgeous, the smocking is so comfortable. The puff sleeves are completely in style, and it has pockets! Below are a few other über cute gingham dresses I found that didn't quite fit into a category above…
